Just what role will Multimedia folder then play in this scheme? I mean when the users will each have their private space in that Homes location? I gather that the Multimedia folder is freely accessible to all users and it seems they all will see all the content. Yes it is family but lets not live on a heap
#VIRTUALMACHINE FOLDER ON QNAP HOW TO#
Is there a beginner guide how to setup typical family NAS with users and their 'space on NAS'? All this sharing is doing my head in.
does that mean I gave that user access to admin space in Homes? Or what? Also tried to make a folder type 'Share space with a user' and after I made it, nothing appears anywhere. I tried creating folders named after user names in location Homes (I did that in Filestation5) but they get created (appear) in Multimedia. As I read the manual, I expected a folder to appear in 'Homes' folder, probably as many as I have users and named after them. In Control panel - Users, I selected all the users I have set up and clicked that button 'Home Folder' and enabled Home folders. Select "Enable home folder for all users" and the disk volume where the home folders will be created in. To use this feature, click "Home Folders". All the home folders are located in the shared folder "Homes", which can only be accessed by "admin" by default. Users can access their folders "home" via Microsoft networking, FTP, AFP, and File Station. Enable Home Folders to create a personal folder to each local user on the NAS.
